11TH COVID19 - ADDRESS (GHANA)
The President of the Republic of Ghana has once again addressed the nation on COVID-19 for the 11th time.
He has emphatically stated the current statistics situation of the pandemic in the nation.
The COVID-19 case count in Ghana now stands at 11,964 confirmed positive cases, 4,258 recoveries and 54 deaths.
Ghana is one of the highest COVID-19 testers on the African continent. He stated how important it is for residents of Greater Accra and Ashanti Regions, to continue to adhere strictly to the social distancing and enhanced hygiene protocols announced since they have the highest COVID-19 recorded cases.
He also stated in his address that all Ghanaians must remember that the wearing of face masks or face covering is now mandatory. Leaving your homes without a face mask or face covering is an offence. The Police have therefore been instructed to enforce the directive, which is the subject of an Executive instrument.
He also stated that, all final year students across the nation are returning to school. And also, the second year gold track students are also to return to school. All final year students are to spend a maximum of six weeks before the commencement of their final exit examination.
The final year students in tertiary level are to return to school on 15th June, 2020.
Final year students in Junior High School are also returning on 29th June, 2020.
Whiles Senior High school final year students and second year gold track students are to return on 22nd June, 2020.
In the case of final year students returning to school, the government has placed directives for all teachers and students across the country to receive three sets of face masks each. In school, there shall be no public gatherings or sporting activities.
Ghana currently has 7,652 active cases. six persons are critically ill, nine persons severely ill whiles 3 persons are on ventilators.
The most shocking news emerged as the President announced that, the Health Minster of Ghana and MP for Dormaa-Mr. Kweku Agyeman Manu has contracted the deadly COVID-19 disease. The conformation comes after the Minister of health denied reports that he has contracted the coronavirus and he is receiving treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).
